The Case of the Bulging Credit Card

    By DaveM | December 7, 2006

In my recent post explaining the new online business project, I mentioned that I had not yet purchased Site Build It!. Well, in case you’re wondering why I haven’t ponied up the dough and started on my opportunity-junkie-reform project already, it’s really quite simple…. My last payment hasn’t cleared the darn credit card yet!

Yup, you read that right, and it’s true. Our rewards credit card was completely maxed out as of two days ago and I didn’t have any room to make the SBI purchase. See, the card has a limit of $3600 and we use it for ALL our day-to-day expenses such as groceries, gas, some utility bills, entertainment, etc. The idea is to earn back as many points as possible and still be able to pay off the balance each month so we don’t incur interest. Normally, we rack up somewhere around $2500-$3000 each month and it gets paid off in full - no problem.

This month was a little different story… My wife and I purchased a new pool table as a Christmas present to ourselves. Needless to say, that put a bit of extra strain on the card this month and didn’t leave room for much else. The cool thing is that, with all the reward points we earned this year (so far), we were able to get $400 worth of gift cards to give our kids for Xmas. The gift cards are for pretty nice places too, like Target, Media Play, Old Navy and Barnes & Noble (Um, I hope my kids don’t read this blog). We’ll still have more points to redeem this year because we ordered the gift cards BEFORE we charged the pool table.

Anyway, I just scheduled the “extra” payment from my online billpay system on Tuesday, so I’m expecting the card to have a zero balance either today or tomorrow. At which time, I will purchase my SBI package and get rolling on my plan to dominate the online market with ………

HA! You thought I was going to give away my new business idea, didn’t you? Not just yet, but it’s coming soon!

      Dave,

It’s good to see that you are still at it! I ran across a post of yours on Steve Pavlina’s forums.

You’ve been added to my feed collection, and I look forward to your new SBI site.

      Keep on keeping on,
      Lyman

Hi Lyman, great to hear from you again! I think you and I first met up on the Simpleology 101 forum, or was it SOGR? Geez, I can’t remember, but at least we’re still running in the same circles.

I LOVE Steve Pavlina’s forums and have been trying to stay involved over there. I hope all is well with you!
