FOR SALE: One Partially Developed and Slightly Used Beef Jerky Website
By DaveM | April 23, 2007
UPDATE: Unfortunately, there were no takers and the jerky website died a slow and natural death.
After all the recent hub-bub about my new SBI-built beef jerky empire, I’m sure at least one or two of you is wondering what has been going on lately.
The short answer is…Not much.
Since I revealed my new site in January, the number of hours I’ve spent working on it can be (easily) counted on one set of fingers.
Unfortunately, here’s what I discovered… I’m not passionate about beef jerky (or buffalo jerky, or even turkey jerky). There, I said it.
Try as I may, I just haven’t been able to get myself motivated to continue developing the site. Without the passion, there’s just not much else there to keep me inspired to work on it.
Having said that, I still love eating jerky, and I still think it’s a great business idea — for the right person.
Which brings me to this shocking announcement…
The domain, the entire SBI hosting/design/marketing package, and the content I’ve developed up to this point — is all FOR SALE!
This doesn’t mean I’ve given up on Site Build It (SBI). I still believe they have one of the absolute best things going right now for the small business person who wants to develop an online presence. In fact, I even debated about having my SBI package “reset” so I could start over with a new site concept; one that I am passionate about.
After mulling that over for a while, the only site concept I could think of that gets me up early, and keeps me up late, is personal finance.
But instead of starting over with SBI, I decided to pour my time, effort and passion into Mauder.com which, quite honestly, has been floundering for years. Almost within a few hours of making that decision, I found a website with a huge collection of free WordPress theme templates! Oddly, I had tried a couple times in the past to get WordPress working on my website, and always gave up in frustration because I couldn’t figure out how to create a theme I liked.
The Internet gods work in mysterious ways!
Long story short, you’re now experiencing my new WordPress-enabled Mauder’s Money Matters website, and this is where I need to focus my energy.
So, back to the (partially developed) Jerky Empire…
It is currently posted for sale on a couple discussion boards, and on Craigslist.com. There are two interested parties at the moment, but nobody has made a commitment yet. The asking price is $295 which is basically the annual cost of a complete SBI website package.
Realizing I’m already almost 5 months into the annual SBI program, I still think it is a fair price due to all the content I’ve developed thusfar. Whoever purchases the site will have a awesome head start because the keyword research is done, the look & feel is done, and I’ve spent countless hours researching and writing content.
Everything you see at www.All-Natural-Beef-Jerky.com, as well as the entire SBI feature set, can be had for only $295. It’s basically just enough for me to get my money back out of it.
If you’re interest in purchasing this pretty-much-ready-to-go business, contact me and let me know. With a little further development, maybe a few additional affiliate programs, and some proper promo — you’ll be rolling in Beef Jerky style!

If you’re looking to sell, another place you could check out is sitepoint.com - they’ve got a marketplace there where you can offer to sell your site. I’ve been there and paid to sell some domains. It’s easy - might want to give it a whirl if the Craigslist doesn’t work out.
I’m really happy that you’ve found your focus and are now doing what you love.

Thanks Empress, I will check out sitepoint.com if I don’t get any serious bites soon.
If anything, I feel like I got a great education in what it takes to be in business. Bottom line, you can dream up the absolute best site concept of all time, but if you don’t have PASSION about the topic, you just ain’t gonna be successful at it.
Some people (very few I imagine) have the willpower to push themselves to keep working on something they aren’t passionate about.
I can’t believe I’m saying this… But, money just isn’t enough!

Do you still have the beef jerky site for sale?
