My Financial Independence Network Limited (FINL) Story

A Great Financial Education and Network Marketing Wake-Up Call

My first foray into Internet marketing was with Financial Independence Network Limited (FINL). I absolutely LOVED the company and their financial education products.

Imagine my excitement when I learned they also had a business opportunity!

Their flagship product was the Debt Free & Prosperous Living Basic Course, written by company owner, John Cummuta. They also published a couple of paid monthly newsletters and offered some advanced courses in money management.

The financial strategies worked wonderfully, and still do today, so I certainly don’t regret getting involved with the company. It also explains my interest in matters of money and the long standing personal finance theme here at Mauder.com.

As a “Financial Independence Consultant”, or FIC as they called it then, I introduced people to the educational products and business opportunity. I also went through the advanced training course and became a Certified Financial Independence Consultant (CFIC) which authorized me to hold live seminars on behalf of the company.

Although I was involved with FINL for almost 4 years, I only got serious about the business for a little over one year (Late ‘96 to early ‘98).

During that time, I busted my butt, online and offline, promoting FINL’s products and building my sales organization. I also worked with my upline to develop an awesome postcard marketing strategy that was bringing in new reps like a well oiled machine. Life was good.

At the end of that year, I had a downline organization of around 120 people, and I was making a staggering $238 per month. Barely $2.00 per person… Hardly worth the blood sweat and tears I donated for over a year!

Shortly thereafter, the company made some changes. Prices were raised, the commission structure was updated, a big front-end load was put on the products, and the rumor was management was at odds with each other.

Basically, the company tried to go from a “Mom & Pop” operation to a big-time MLM overnight. The independent rep organization was shook up and angry. Within about 3 months my sales organization dwindled to less than 20 people, and my already meager paycheck went right along with it.

It wasn’t long after that and FINL was completely out of business.

John Cummuta has since moved on and is now promoting a similar product called Transforming Debt Into Wealth. You may have even heard him advertising it on the radio in your area.

My involvement with FINL (and Charles Givens in 1991) really got me hooked on debt-reduction, money management, personal finances, and investing. It’s a time in my life I certainly don’t regret, and an education you just can’t buy in any school. It sparked my interest and, to this day, I still devour every book, magazine, and website I find on these topics.

Since FINL, there have been many copycat products developed that are based on the same sound financial strategies. Honestly, there are only so many ways to pay off debt and get your finances under control. So don’t worry about who has the best product out there… Just find a great debt reduction plan and apply the strategies to your own life.

The FINL course was one of the best (in my opinion). It was simple, straightforward, and it just plain worked! If you’re not already on a debt reduction plan of your own, I encourage you to check out the new and improved Transforming Debt Into Wealth by John Cummuta.
